Terms of service

The important part is at the top: HoldMama is support and education, not medical care. If you are in danger right now, call 988 or your local emergency number instead of reading this page.

This is not medical care

HoldMama does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe. It is not a substitute for a doctor, midwife, therapist, or psychiatrist, and using it does not create a clinician–patient relationship.

The reflection tool reproduces the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale for your own information. It is self-completed and is not a clinical screening. A number from it is not a diagnosis, and a low number is not clearance to ignore how you feel.

Your AI companion is a support tool. It can be wrong. It will not give you medication advice, and you should not act on anything it says in place of speaking to a qualified clinician.

Emergencies

HoldMama is not an emergency service. We do not monitor conversations in real time, and nobody is dispatched if you type something alarming.

If you are thinking of harming yourself or your baby, or you believe someone is in danger, call 988 (call or text), 1-833-TLC-MAMA, or your local emergency number. These are staffed 24 hours a day by people trained for exactly this.

Peer support is peer support

Mentor moms and community members are peers who have lived through perinatal mental illness themselves and are trained to listen. They are not clinicians, they do not provide therapy, and nothing they say is medical advice.

Community members are individuals speaking for themselves. Their views are not ours, and we do not verify claims made in community spaces.

Using the community well

The circles work because people can say frightening things without being judged. To keep that true:

  • Do not share anyone else's identifying information, or screenshot and repost what is said in a circle.
  • Do not give medical or medication advice to other members.
  • Do not sell, recruit, or promote anything.
  • Do not harass, shame, or pile on. Telling a mother she is a bad mother is the one thing that gets you removed immediately.

We may remove content or accounts that break these rules. Where we can, we will tell you why.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has access.

You can delete your account at any time, from your settings, without talking to anyone. We will not put a retention offer in the way.

What things cost

Nothing. There is no paid tier, no trial that ends, and no feature that asks for a card. Everything described in these terms is available to everyone at no charge.

We may one day need to charge for something. If that ever happens, the crisis resources, the reflection tool, the grounding exercises, the articles and the partner guide stay free — that is a commitment, not a current pricing decision.

Giving

You can give any amount, once or monthly. One-time gifts are one-time: nothing recurs unless you deliberately choose a monthly gift, which you can stop at any time from the receipt Stripe sends you, or by emailing us.

A gift buys you nothing. It does not unlock a feature, change what you can read, or give you standing with us that anyone else lacks. It pays running costs — model fees for the companion, hosting, the domain, email, and moderation as the community opens.

Gifts are NOT tax-deductible charitable donations, and we are not a registered charity. They are a voluntary payment toward running a website. We would rather say that plainly than let you assume otherwise at tax time.

If you gave by mistake, or gave more than you meant to, email us and we will refund it. We will not ask you why.

Content and copyright

The articles, tools and design are ours. You are welcome to link to any of it, quote it with attribution, and print the crisis resources for a clinic, a ward, a shelter or a fridge door — please do.

The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale is reproduced unaltered under its terms permitting free reproduction with citation (Cox, Holden & Sagovsky, 1987).

What you write stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to show it back to you and, if you post in a circle, to display it there.

Liability

The service is provided as it is. We work hard to make it accurate and available, but we cannot guarantee it is uninterrupted or error-free, and to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes and governing law

If we change these terms materially, we will tell account holders before the change takes effect.

These terms are between you and HoldMama. The governing jurisdiction is being finalised as we complete our company registration, and this page will name it as soon as it is settled. Email hello@holdmama.com if you need to know before then.
